A student and a community member play basketball at the DIF-Ability Community Event.

An inclusionary vibe hummed through the air inside the Lincoln Middle School gym recently as adults and youth with an array of ability levels played wheelchair basketball, goalball and sitting volleyball at the DIF-Ability Paralympics Community Event.

The RRPS DIF-Ability Paralympics Community Event, which coincided with the 2022 Beijing Paralympics, also featured motivational words from Travis Davis, a TEDx speaker and adaptive sports athlete, and Kipp Watson, founder of the Rio Rancho Road Runners wheelchair basketball team and 2019 Guinness World Records holder for the most consecutive hoops made from the free throw line while sitting in a wheelchair. Representatives from Best Buddies, which provides opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, encouraged everyone to pledge to spread inclusion.

It was a great event at LMS and it was fantastic to see community members and our very own Leopards in attendance!
